Sacraments

Holy Matrimony is one of life’s most important occasions which will be remembered for the rest of your life. This is for all of us, a time for celebration and festivity but also for contemplation and reflection on commitment, faithfulness and your loyalty towards one another. We will do our best to contribute the best of what we offer on this important occasion.

We are delighted that you are considering taking your vows and committing yourself to one another at St John's. There has been a long tradition of weddings and blessings at this beautiful church which, with its grandeur, unique beauty and fine music, has shared in the happiness of many couples. If you have had a Civil Wedding in a Registry Office we can provide a service of blessing which is very similar to a wedding in church.

Our services.
From your first contact we will guide you step-by-step through the process with care explaining the choices available to you in putting the service together. We will also organise a rehearsal.

Music.
We are able to offer outstanding music which will be carefully arranged by our organist and Director of Music. Music can also be played from CDs through our sound system.

How do we proceed?
If you are thinking about getting married, please contact Fr Brendan and make an appointment to see him, or see him on Sunday Morning to arrange an appointment.

The Reading of Banns.
Banns are an announcement in church of your intention to marry and a chance for anyone to put forward a reason why the marriage may not lawfully take place. You will need to complete the Banns of Marriage Form.

If one or both of you live within this parish and are getting married at another church, there is a legal requirement for your banns to be read here at St John's.
