Welcome from Fr Brendan Clover

The Parish Church of St John the Evangelist was built by Sir Arthur Hallam Elton for the people of Clevedon. It is the largest parish in the town by geography and density of population. The parish has great facilities: a beautiful Victorian church with exquisite stained glass, an excellent acoustic and a Father Willis organ; two church halls and unparalleled church grounds. The growing community of faith here seeks to love God as he reveals himself in Jesus Christ through worship, in order to reach out in loving service of our neighbour. We have a fine tradition of beautiful liturgy and excellent preaching.

In April 2021 Fr Brendan Clover became our Parish Priest. Formerly Dean of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, Residentiary Canon of Bristol, and Senior Provost of Woodard Schools (one of the largest Church of England providers of education across the sectors). Fr Brendan has an ambition that St John's becomes a centre of Catholic life in the Church of England in the Southwest of England and to develop an annual festival of liturgy, music and literature, at the time of the parish's Patronal Festival, the Feast of the Passion of St John the Evangelist (6 May).
